Outreach

The Wisconsin AER has worked hard to provide various opportunities for its stakeholder to connect, learn, and grow. Please take a moment to learn more about what we have to offer!

Digital Community: The Wisconsin chapter of AER (Association for Education and Rehabilitation of the blind and visually impaired) sponsors an electronic group via Google Groups dedicated solely to the education of students who are blind or visually impaired (BVI) in Wisconsin. We welcome anyone who is connected to and/or who is interested in being connected in this field to participate by:

  • posting a question or an answer
  • sharing a specific announcement related to the field
  • stimulating discussion related to the education or service delivery of children and youth who are BVI.

WAER Vis members have access to the Google Group at any time; while the group is moderated, posts and responses are not approved prior to posting.

Coffee Chats: WAER Coffee Chats are casual meetings featuring a discussion topic for Vision Professionals who serve both students and adults. Coffee Chats are open to all Vision Professionals, regardless of AER membership status and are free of charge. Meetings occur over Zoom and are offered once a month.

WAER It’s At!: The Wisconsin AER has created “WAER it’s At,” a podcast to provide additional resources and opportunities to connect people who are interested in the field of visual impairments. Our podcast features interviews from various individuals across the nation and in Wisconsin who are making an impact in our field!

Webinars: In 2021, WAER will be offering three, 60 minute webinars on suggested topics from the field. Webinars are geared towards those who are seeking bite sized professional development, outside of a conference setting. Each webinar will offer CEU’s from ACVREP and has a fee of $20 for members and $25 for non-members. Please note, your fee is put into our scholarship fund for students who are pursuing a career in the field of blindness and visual impairment.

Collaborative Vision Conference: Traditionally, the Collaborative Vision Conference (CVC) is a two-day, in-person event, for ALL Vision Professionals, packed with presentations, time with vendors, awards, networking, AND a chocolate fountain. The CVC is hosted by both WAER members and non-WAER members and is held in Stevens Point, WI in late spring. This year, the CVC will be offered virtually on Saturday, April 24, 2021.
